West Ellet Street Addition
This project involved the design and construction of a third floor on a two story house in Mount Airy. The existing house had a distinctive roof line with an eyebrow window on the front facade and a deep roof overhang with custom brackets. These features were maintained and the addition was designed around - and to highlight - them. A mansard roof was used to minimize the effect of the addition on the overall scale of the original house. The clients have been told by passer-bys that they would never guess that the third floor was an addition - which is a success!
The addition comprises a new Master Suite with home office and a roof terrace. The charm of the mansard roof is carried into the interior with sloped walls and dormers. The terrace is also tucked into the roof lines and barely visible to the street, creating a private oasis for the homeowners.
“We loved working with Jackie and Tina on our third-floor addition. They took all of our ideas and pulled them together into a cohesive design that both fit our style and blended seam- lessly with the rest of the house and the block, and they were attentive and communicative throughout the entire process”
