This project dramatically changed the living and kitchen areas of a ranch style house in Media, Pennsylvania. The house previously had a small worn-out kitchen, too large un-used Dining Room, and a small Living Room with a fireplace tucked into the corner. Through a rewarding and collaborative schematic process, inHabit and the client arrived at a scheme that opened up the three spaces into each other and created a circular flow. The kitchen was moved into the large room at the end of the house while an eat in table took the place of the old kitchen. Removing the wall between the Living room and new dining area allows the fireplace to be a focal point seen from the front door. With the enlarge- ment of a couple of windows, the entire living area of the house became filled with natural light and better views of the yard. New wood floors through- out, casual wood cabinets, soapstone counters, and coordinating paint colors have created a house that now more accurately reflects the personality and lifestyle of this family.
