Rainbow Academy, a well-established day care and summer camp in the Northampton community, hired inHabit to expand their facility with an addition that included three classrooms, shared Library, Conference Room, and much-needed storage. The addition was designed to fit with the aesthetic of the campus’s existing building and smaller barn structures.
The new classrooms keep young minds engaged with fun colors and windows to connect to the exterior greenery. Each room has a child-sized toilet room and Kitchenette to make the teacher’s day more manageable, while features like a built-in cork rail and beadboard wainscoting provide warmth and coziness to the student’s day. The upper level classroom takes advantage of the expansive roof shape through a peaked ceiling and a large skylight tunnel anchored to a reading bench.
In the Library, where whimsy encourages imagination, a sculptured tree and leafy wallpaper create a canopy under which students can read. A large window array looks out to the natural tree line beyond, further enhancing the idea of reading outdoors.
